A ciszterciek zirci rendházában tanult. Budapesten a Szent Imre Gimnázium tanára, 1939 és 1948 között igazgatója, közben a budapesti egyetem magántanára. 1957-ben megszerezte az irodalomtudományok doktora címet. 1919 és 1926 között szerkesztette a Magyar Középiskola c. lapot, irodalmi olvasókönyvet írt.
