IV. Béla király leánya, akit szülei (fogadalmuknak megfelelően) 4 éves korában adtak a Veszprémi Domokos Nővérek Szent Katalinról elnevezett kolostorába (a Benedek-hegy alatt), ahol tízéves koráig, 1252-ig nevelkedett. A Nyulak-szigetére került, ahol 1254-ben tette le az ünnepélyes fogadalmat. Életét a Szent Margit legenda örökíti meg, amely három részre tagolódik. Az első Margit kolostori életét mutatja be, a második a csodákat, a harmadik a szentté avatási jegyzőkönyvek alapján a nővérek vallomásait tartalmazza. Az eredeti latin nyelvű legenda szerzője frater Senior, aki valószínűleg azonos Margit gyóntatójával, Marcellus páterrel. Ennek alapján készült Johannes Vercellensis műve, amelyet Ráskai Lea, margitszigeti domonkos apáca másolt le, és 1510-ben a maga korának helyrajzi viszonyaira alkalmazott. (Szent Margit legendája. Nyelvemléktár, 8.) Veszprémben a Domokos-kolostor romján – a róla elnevezett téren – és az Államigazgatási Főiskola falán van emléktáblája.<br />
